The advance of technology is disrupting every industry, including the legal sector. To capture the perceived benefits of these technologies, all parties concerned in the legal industry are now planning for or undergoing some forms of digitalisation. ‘Going digital’ requires strategic planning to avoid undesirous outcomes. A pre-requisite of devising a digitalisation strategy is to know what the available technologies are and how they apply in specific practice areas.
Discussions on the status of the technologies and the trend of further development will form part of the presentation.
Dr Alan Ma is dual-qualified in Engineering and Law. He is a qualified solicitor in England and Wales, and Scotland (non-practising), a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, a Chartered Engineer and a full member of the BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT. His working experience in engineering, computing technology, contracts manager and legal practices spans over 30 years. Before his academic appointment at Birmingham City University in England in 2019, Alan was Resident Partner of an international law firm’s branch office in Hong Kong.
